Terms and Conditions - VoltTec

1. Definitions
-
“Company” refers to VoltTec
-
“Client” refers to the individual or organisation commissioning the work.
-
“Services” refers to all electrical works, installation, repair, inspection, testing, or associated tasks carried out by the Company.
-
“Quote/Estimate” refers to a non-binding cost projection provided to the Client before work begins.
2. Quotes, Estimates & Pricing
2.1 Non-Binding Nature of Quotes
All quotes and estimates are provided in good faith based on the information available at the time.
A quote is not a final or guaranteed price. Electrical work often involves hidden conditions (e.g., inaccessible wiring, non-compliant installations, additional parts required, or safety-related issues uncovered during work).
The final invoice may vary from the initial estimate.
2.2 Unforeseen Issues
If additional work or materials are required due to unforeseen conditions or compliance requirements:
-
the Company will notify the Client as soon as reasonably possible; and
-
additional charges will apply at the Company’s standard rates unless otherwise agreed in writing.
2.3 Hourly Rates & Materials
Unless a fixed-price contract is explicitly agreed in writing:
-
labour is charged at the Company’s standard hourly/day rates, and
-
materials are charged at cost plus any standard handling/collection charges.
2.4 Validity Period
Quotes/estimates are valid for 30 days unless stated otherwise.
2.5 Variations Requested by the Client
Any changes to the original scope requested by the Client will be priced separately and added to the final invoice.
3. Deposits & Payment Terms
-
Projects valued over £600 may require a 50% deposit before work commences (unless otherwise agreed).
-
Standard payment terms are 30 days from invoice date.
-
Late payments may incur interest in accordance with the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998.
4. Access & Site Requirements
The Client must:
-
provide safe and reasonable access to the premises;
-
ensure the work area is free from hazards, obstruction, or interference;
-
ensure utilities (electricity, water, lighting) are made available where required.
Delays caused by restricted access may result in additional charges.
5. Compliance & Certification
All work will be carried out in accordance with:
-
BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations);
-
relevant Building Regulations (e.g., Part P, where applicable);
-
applicable British Standards or manufacturer instructions.
Certificates (e.g., EIC, EICR, Minor Works) will be issued where legally required.
6. Client Responsibilities
The Client agrees not to:
-
instruct other contractors to work on the same circuits or installations during the Company’s contracted period;
-
modify any installed materials, fixtures, or cabling without consent;
-
hold the Company liable for issues caused by pre-existing defects or third-party workmanship.
7. Warranty
-
Workmanship is warranted for 12 months from completion.
-
Manufacturer warranties apply to goods and materials.
-
Warranty does not cover damage from misuse, lack of maintenance, environmental damage, or interference by third parties.
8. Cancellations
-
Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice may incur a charge covering time allocated, travel, and any materials already purchased.
-
Custom-ordered materials are non-refundable once ordered.
9. Liability
The Company is not liable for:
-
losses resulting from delays caused by supplier issues, client access issues, or matters outside the Company’s control;
-
damage to existing systems that were already defective, unsafe, or non-compliant;
-
incidental or consequential losses (e.g., lost revenue, downtime, spoiled goods, etc.).
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence as per UK law.
10. Title to Goods
All supplied materials remain the property of the Company until full payment is received.
The Company may retrieve unpaid items where legally permissible.
11. Waste Disposal
Standard waste is removed as part of the service.
Large items (e.g., old fuse boards, heavy fittings) may require an additional disposal fee.
12. Additional Charges
The Client is responsible for:
-
parking fees;
-
congestion charges;
-
access permits;
-
costs arising from aborted site visits due to no access.
13. Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
Any disputes shall be settled within the jurisdiction of the English courts.
14. Acceptance of Terms
By commissioning work, paying a deposit, or allowing the Company to begin work, the Client agrees to these Terms and Conditions.
